My Life Should Only Be So Cool

sunday night, i had the pleasure of hearing the voice of one of my best friends in the whole wide world. she just got back from spending nine weeks (!!) in alaska taking classes for the summer. it was such a strange experience hearing her talk to me after being out of touch for so long.

mind you, i understand that nine weeks isn't exactly all that long for some of us. you have to understand, however, that libby and i had been separated at birth only later to become attached at the hip for a little more than two years. we have a hard time not calling each other every week or so. that being said, it always disconcerts me when something that should be so familiar (talking to libby) feels so out of the ordinary.

on the ferry
monday morning, i get an e-mail from her with crazy cool pictures from her trip.
libby kayaking
i'm showing you these two, because they show not only how amazing her trip was, but just how pretty that darn girl is. shame on her. she's not supposed to look so good. she's been camping for weeks, for crying out loud!!

to top this off, another best friend of mine (i have three, not including ian), is in africa. rachie just got a job there in uganda (?), and i don't know when i'm going to see her next. i was going to include some of her e-mails, but i find that i've mistakenly deleted the latest news (l'idiote, c'est moi). rachie is intrepid, i tell you; once she left maryland, there was no stopping her-london, new orleans, africa... i cannot wait to see what she does next. when i get pictures from her, i'll post them too so i can also bemoan just how ravishing she is and how she does the coolest things.

it's just not right people!! it's just not right!

  1. wow...beautiful. Aunt Lynn has been there many times as well, and raves about it. You know a lot of traveling people...why can't I be one of them?

  2. Awwwww Yer toot sweet. I'm under the impression i look more like a little boy than anything. Anywho, I can't wait to talk to you again. Hopefully we'll find or make time when neither of us are exhausted or distracted.
It's hard and wonderful to be home. After two and a half months (it was ten weeks, i can't count) my life seems so luxurious and it takes all my will power not to just eat and sleep all i want.
I'm so glad you have this space it's nice to get to hear about your life. I missa you.
